Justice Served in Sudan, But Will It Stick?
The sentencing of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to death for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide marks a rare instance of accountability for those responsible for atrocities committed during the civil war in Sudan.
The verdict, handed down by a court in Port Sudan, is significant, but its impact may be limited. The RSF continues to control large parts of western Sudan, and Dagalo's whereabouts are unknown.
